The Lake District - a mountainous region in North West England and a popular holiday destination is famous not only for its lakes, forests, and mountains (or fells), but also for its associations with the early nineteenth century poetry and writings of William Wordsworth and the other Lake Poets.
J.M.W. Turner, the English romantic landscape painter and water-colourist, journeyed on horse back across the mountain passes to capture the ethereal light of the Lakeland landscape.
